one does not need to be a genius at chemistry or maths to figure out certain equations. here are mine: panda eyes and a bad bout of flu, cough plus sore throat = a result of excessive soccer watching and lack of sleep. disappointment and having your mood affected = a result of all your favourite teams getting knocked out damn early. withdrawal symptoms = due to the end of world cup. (the epl starts when, august? weeks of soccer free days.. ) erm ok. figured out that i am not journalist material at all.. i simply cant think of how to continue all that equations. anyway. i had really little sleep last night cuz i watched the italy and france final.. woke up with even worse panda eyes. kan dao yan jing dou hei hei le. luckily i have a pair of glasses to sorta shield the condition of my eyes. hmm.. i was hoping that the final would be settled in normal time so that i could so back to get some sleep before going to school.. we were pretty unlucky not to get any extra time off school.. :( i had actually intended to just sleep in and arrive in school slightly later than usual but surprisingly, BRAVO! i managed to wake up feeling as fresh as ever. but i guess it was worth it. the final was in a way entertaining in different aspects. zidane scored from the spot when the referee, horacio elizondo awarded a penalty early in the game. afterwards, Marco Materazzi replied with a superb header from a corner kick. so at full time, the score was 1-1. then the whole world witnessed zidane thrust his shaven head at marco materazzi after probably getting provoked and got sent off. what a head butter. at that moment, i had a thought pass thru my head: " this is gonna splash the front pages for sure." quite obvious isnt it? a talented player at the ultimate end of his glittering career and he spoils it by having his temper slip out of control. sad ending for zizou man. but you've really got to hand to it the italians. in the penalty shootout, they did not miss a single penalty and a single miss by france striker david trezeguet was enough to hand them the world cup title. i love watching players celebrate a win... be it whether it is a team i support or not. i remember fabio cannavaro not showing any emotions at all during the shoot out til grosso slotted the winning penalty home before raising his arms in complete ecstasy. the italians then produced some flamboyant dance moves to celebrate their win. congratulations italy! i think they fully deserve to win the tournament. when other teams such as brazil and argentina could not hold their nerves to proceed to the later rounds, italy did and that is the difference that separates the winners from the pretenders. so the final chapter of the 2006 world cup has finally concluded and all those who got so engrossed in it for a full month can gladly close the last chapter and get some well deserved sleep and rest. it'll be back to normal lives for now - til the new chapter opens again in 2010 in south africa. sometimes i really wonder. memories are such a mysterious and strange thing. how on earth do they actually work and make us remember things? why is it also possible to clean forget things which u would otherwise not want to remember? jodi picoult's "vanishing acts" invoked these thoughts in me. it's just so bizarre, the way human brains work out. i've been really interested in journalism ever since i was nine. i know i would probably never meet the mark of a journalist but it's a dream that i want to have and will have for as long as ever. i chalked up another a1 in history today and now my mind is set. i will take history when i move up to sec 3 next year. i will meet my ultimate doom in two to three days time. i will have to speak to the whole school about racial harmony day when i would so rather talk about soccer. considering the fact that my throat is really sore and scratchy now, it will probably turn out horrible. plus the script so totally sucks. i wrote about the "animosity between the races". how rubbishy. anyway, i have every reason to believe that i am the most avid soccer fan in my entire class. the evidence? they dun talk about soccer at all. practically no one talks about the world cup for more than a minute. when they do, it's about the male players. i bet no one would want to discuss england's tactics with me or even who should play and who shouldnt and whether a certain referee was biased or if the penalty awarded was a right decision or not and if the goal is rightly ruled offside. it just bores them out i suppose. :( which is a sad thing. especially when the epl kicks of again. no one will even give a damn about what's happening. ah wells, this is what you get from an all girls' school. anyway, i haven summed up zidane's performance against italy earlier this morning. it was zooneyish. | ||
